James Beck was a three term Valdosta mayor in the 1960's and 1970's and later served in the Georgia House of Representatives, first being elected in 1975. He later served at least until 1990 as representative.
The 15 boxes of materials in the James Beck Collection contain correspondence, reports, newspaper clippings that document his government service. Topics include railroads, the Valdosta Municipal Airport, Moody Air Force Base, re-elections, the Planning Commission, Education,...

Scope and Contents
Pictures and copies of some items that went into the time capsule at Drexel Park in Valdosta to be opened in 2060. Many of these items relate to Moody Airforce base. The VSU Archivist oversaw the packing of the Time Capsule, and there is a copy of the Valdosta Daily Times for the date in 2010 that features the Archivist with items for the capsule on the cover. The capsule was buried under a marker bench in Drexel park in 2010.
