The Valdosta State Modern and Classical Languages Department is under the College of Arts and Sciences. The first department head noted for the Modern Foreign Language Department was Dr. James Thornton, 1970-1972; then Dr. Jose B. Fernandez served from 1972-198; Dr. Dennis Hale, 1981-1989 followed. Dr. Sandra Walker has been head of Modern Foreign Languages since 1989.

Abstract

History of the Department:    The Valdosta State Political Science Department is under the College of Arts and Sciences.  The first department head noted for the Modern Foreign Language Department was Dr. James Thornton, 1970-1972;  then Dr. Jose B. Fernandez served from 1972-198; Dr. Dennis Hale, 1981-1989 followed.  Dr. Sandra Walker has been head of Modern Foreign Languages since 1989.
