Scope and Contents

The men’s Basketball Team, first the Rebels and then the Blazers after 1972, was formed and played its first season in 1959 with coach Gary Colson (see Baseball 16/2/2).  In 1968, coach Jimmy Melvin took over and in 1971 James Dominey, current Blazer’s coach, got the job. The Men’s Basketball Collection contains, schedules, promotional materials, annual programs, clippings and correspondence.  The summer basketball camp is also documented.

Scope and Contents

Valdosta State's first basketball team was called the Rebels, a name that was used campus-wide for sports until 1972 when our name was changed to the Blazers. This collection contains sports memorabilia from our time both as the Rebels and the Blazers including themed:  posters, clothing, banners, and pictures. Also part of the collection is former mascot Blaze the Dragon, who lives on the first floor of Odum Library next to the Bailey display.
