Bethpage Methodist Church (1830-) (Grady County, Georgia)

 Organization

Biographical / Historical

Organized around 1830, Bethpage Methodist is one of the oldest Methodist Churches in Grady County. The church was an outgrowth of the expansion of Methodism in Florida which began after the United States acquired the territory from Spain. When organized, the church was originally under the jurisdiction of the Tallahassee district and was a member of the Florida Conference from its establishment in 1845 until 1867.

The original church was constructed from logs and hand hewn timbers. The church eventually moved its services to a Masonic Lodge that was on the site where the current church still exists. After the masons disbanded, the building was given to the church and in 1875 the Masonic Lodge building was remodeled.
