Obituary of Wilson Wainright, Nahunta, Georgia, March 3, 1931 - February 14, 2020

Hickox –Mr. Claude “Wilson” Wainright, 88, passed away Friday evening (February 14,2020) at his residence after an extended illness.

Born in Offerman, GA his parents were Willie Jackson Wainright and Arizona Prescott Wainright. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Eliza Lee Wainright; daughter, Gail Wainright; brother, Woodrow Jackson Wainright; and an infant sister, Lizzie Faye Wainright.

Mr. Wilson was the owner of W.J. Wainright’s Meats, he was known all across the southeast for his famous “Wainright Sausage” and other fine meats. He was member of Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church and loved visiting with his family and friends and farming. Mr. Wilson taught singing starting at 17 years old and loved singing with The Sacred Harp. Mr. Wainright loved working with the FFA during Hog sales and was very supportive of the Brantley County youth.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia “Trish” Wainright Mallard (Derek) of Waycross; 3 sons and daughtes-in-law, Bruce Wainright (Paula) of Hickox, Larry Wainright (Vera) of Hoboken, and Troy Wainright (Rhonda) of Hickox; 13 Grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a sister, Edna Tuttle of Kingsland; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening (February 16, 2020) from 5pm-7pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral service will be held Monday afternoon (February 17, 2020) at 3PM at Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Eddie Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Greg Lee, Cary Lee, Robert Drawdy, Roger Crews, Sidney Lee, Richard Lee, Corey Wainright, and Heath Wainright.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
