Obituary for Louise Benniefield Seay "Sister"

Louise Benniefield Seay was born on October 4, 1934 in Midville, Georgia to the Late Mr. Sam Benniefield and Mrs. Annie Lee Gibbons. After graduating from high school she moved to Pahokee, Florida with her mother Annie Lee Gibbons. She started working as a laborer in the corn and bean fields of Pahokee and Belle Glade, Florida. In 1972, she moved to Apopka, Florida and began working at the carrot packing house located on Lust and Long Farms in Plymouth, Florida. She worked for Lust and Long until she retired in 1988. After retiring from the farming industry, she became a member of the Farmworker Association of Florida, where she served for over twenty years. In 2003, Louise received an Outstanding Achievement Award for services in the Black Community and the Farmworkers Association. She spent her last ten years on the Board of Directors for the Farmworker Association. In 2008, she received an award for her dedication to the cause of Justice and Equality for farmworkers in Florida.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, Sam Benniefield and Annie Lee Gibbons; Her Husband: James H. Seay, Sr.; One Daughter: Gloria Jean McCoy; Two Brothers: Robert Lee Gibbons and Dawson Gibbons; One Sister: Geneva Slydell.

She is survived by: Two Sons: Herbert H. Cason, Jr. (Cynthia) and James H. Seay, Jr. of Apopka, FL.; One Daughter: Wendy Haynes (Reggie) of Apopka, FL.; One Sister: Carrie Spinks of Apopka, FL.; One God Son: Allen Fields of New York City, NY.; One Grandson: Jairu Neal; Six Granddaughters: Tanya Parker, Sade Palmer, Kierra Evans, Nadia Cason, Regina Haynes, Shaykera Neal; Five Great Grand Children: Devon Parker, Dante Brown, Chiquita Parker, Faneva Lowe, Derrick Lowe, Jr.; Five Great-Great Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving relatives and friends.
