Joseph Bruchac, author of fiction and non-fiction including poetry, is of mixed Slovak, English, and Native American Abenaki Indian. He holds a B.A. from Cornell University; a M.A. in Literature and Creative Writing from Syracuse University; and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Union Institute of Ohio. A professional Storyteller, he is one of the founders of the Wordcraft Circle of Native American Writers and Storytellers, and, along with his wife Carol, began The Greenfield Review in 1969.

Iron Mountain was a short-lived journal published by Chas S. Clifton's Artemisa Press. Only four issues were published between 1984 and 1986 which constituted volume one. This publication was influential in the creation of the first peer-reviewed journal The Pomegranate published by Fritz Muntean
