Charles Henry Allan Bennett was born December 8, 1872, London, England and died March 9, 1923, Clapham Junction, London, England. He studied witchcraft along with Aleister Crowley under George Pickinghill. He was was an English Buddhist and former member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. He received his name, Bhikkhu Ananda Metteyya, at his ordination as a Buddhist monk in the Theravāda tradition. Ānanda Mettēyya was instrumental in bringing Buddhism to the West.
