Scope and Contents

Description: Mask/sculpture: Janus head figure. Media: Carved wood and cowry shell. Size: 11 3/4" x 10 3/4" x 9 1/2". Surface: Mold-like substance (eye area of unbroken face), significant wear throughout; remnants of pigment around features, pink accretion on most of unbroken face. Stability: Cracking, including many radial cracks from top, longest toward broken face, two and three quarters inches from edge between faces, six and three eights by three quarters inches at widest, unbroken face at note, two inches, loss from cheek to chin, three and a half inches by one and a quarter inches at widest. Infestation: Cobwebs and accretion inside, pinholes throughout, some areas collapsed, substantial loss to one face, apparently from infestation.
