MS-115-008: Elephant Mask
Scope and Contents
Description: Elephant mask. Media: Polychrome wood and cowry shell/gourd. Size: 25" x 11" x 13 3/4". Surface: Surface soiled, wear to pigment, especially at back edges, scuffing underside back, pigment loss on cowry eyes, pigment rubbed off on reverse where piece rests, slight wear to right tusk bend. Stability: Approximately two and three quarter inch of left trunk missing, losses from bottom of trunk on end, three eighths inch crack at top of ear, one and seven sixteenths inch and one and three eighths inch crack on right side of head above ear, scrapes throughout. Infestation: Powdery residue inside trunk, some cobwebs. Note: MS-115-007 does not exist; as a result, Items 7 through 33 do not feature matching Item and MS numbers.
