Digitized 16mm film from WALB-TV (Albany, Georgia, United States), mostly from the 1970's, donated by Ed Lightsey. Raw newsreel compilations include segments on Jimmy Carter; Ku Klux Klan rally in Plains, Georgia; 1980 Georgia 2nd District Congress campaign spots for Charles Hatcher; Dwight Eisenhower heart attack news report; Escaped convicts; Football; 1973 National Meat boycott; The Georgians at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave w/ H. Jordan and J. Powell; "Insight with Ed Lightsey" interview with Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee; Hamilton Jordan Roast; and more.

Acquisition
Ed Lightsey signed deed of gift; second signed deed of gift 09-28-2006 for WALB tapes.
2006. 123 tapes of WALB news stories from the 1970's primarily. The deed of gift and the gift record for University of GA and inventories and papers for the University of GA Peabody library are in a folder in the Director's office. The tapes were to be digitized by UGA with the digital copies returned to VSU Archives. UGA would retain the tapes.

Digitized by University of Georgia Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection onto DVD disc. Converted by Valdosta State University Archives and Special Collections to MPEG-4 (video/mp4) and MKV formats. 720x480 resolution. 4:3 Aspect Ratio. 29.970 FPS. 20171017.
