Box 2: County Correspondence: Columbia-Effingham, 1946-1947
Scope and Contents
The paper collection includes correspondences relating to the recent death of Eugene Tallmadge and the campaign for/against M. E. Thompson as the new Governor of Georgia. Noteworthy correspondences include J.H. Kennon from the 53rd Senatorial District of Georgia, Herman Talmadge, and the Treasurer of Early County Earl Pickle. However the most frequent of his correspondences are Leon Beddingfield, and Phil Landrum. The papers also include newspaper clippings, radio broadcasts, invitations to events, postcards, and Western Union telegrams all relating to debate for Thompson as new Governor of Georgia. Material relating to the Cordele Lions Club, Decatur and Dodge County Teachers Associations, and the Women’s Society of Christian Service is also included.
The papers are arranged by Georgia Counties and presented in Alphabetical order. Within each folder, the documents are arranged by correspondence numbers stamped on the back and are usually paired with related correspondences.
