Box 5: County Correspondence: Jefferson-Oconee, 1946-1947
Scope and Contents
This box primarily contains letters of support during M.E. Thompson’s time as acting governor. Several of the letters of support would discuss political issues while some were personal and discussed family and everyday life. Many of the support letters also bashed Herman Talmadge, who was Thompson's rival. Usually these letters or telegrams were from Talmadge supporters. However, the box also contains letters from people who did not support Thompson and there is even a telegram from Herman Talmadge. A few of the letters asked Thompson to help with problems in their county.
