 Box — Box: 15
Collection number: Box 15

Scope and Contents

This box contains many personal documents. Among these are receipts and bills along with insurance claims. It is evident that M.E. Thompson is gaining wealth because there are many letters congratulating him on his wealth and by viewing the receipts you can come to the conclusion that he has money to spend. He is also becoming involved with the sell and purchase of real estate, particularly on Colonel Island. There are several receipts from drug stores that might suggest Thompson’s health is getting weaker with his older age. There are many letters of thanks and recognition of Thompson’s involvement in the South Georgia and the Valdosta area. He is still an influential man even at an older age and no longer governor because there are letters asking him for recommendation, help recruiting athletes for the University of Georgia’s football team, and his work to improve television coverage of South Georgia. From this a historian can pull information on Thompson’s financial business, his influence in real estate and the community, and his importance in the area.
