 Item — Box: 1, Item: 15
Collection number: Item 15

Scope and Contents

This is a photocopy of the April 19, 1958 edition of the Pittsburgh Courier. The original is stored at the bottom of the box. The front page is covered in headlines, the largest is "300 Teachers Lose Jobs!" Judicial proceedings take up a good portion of the paper including a boy killed by a cop and a girl who was stabbed 11 times. The loss of 300 teachers is blamed on integration of black teachers into white schools. Other political articles can be found throughout the paper, most focusing on racial issues. Education and sports are also fairly prevalent subjects in these articles. There is also a short history editorial and several personal editorials.
