Tim Golden was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 1990-1998. Starting in 1998 Golden served Georgia as a Democratic Senator of the 8th District, and continued to serve his district despite his switch to the Republican Party in 2010. In 2014 he announced he would not be seeking reelection. An alumni of Valdosta State University, Golden served as Chairman of the Senate Insurance and Labor Committee, Vice-Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, which is charged with writing the state’s tax laws and Secretary of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for the annual state budget. Golden also served on the Higher Education Committee and the OneGeorgia Overview Committee. His collection mostly contains materials from his time as a Senator, especially from the years 2000-2015. The files included are correspondence, research, proposed and revised bills, as well as unofficial committee meeting minutes. These materials focus on such subjects as: Autism Insurance Coverage, the 2000 Reapportionment of Districts of Georgia, and the annual state budget. Other bills are included in the collection, as well as correspondence from Senator Golden’s constituents concerning their problems and complaints. He also donated a number of his awards, and personal photographs.
