Box 1: House in the Woods
Scope and Contents
House in the Woods has taken several names and forms through the last century. Sometimes called the Log Cabin or Little House in the Pines, it was originally a tenement house near Georgia State Woman's College. The school acquired it and the students would meet there to take a break from school life. Eventually the original building burned down but the House was rebuilt by the WPA in 1939 and the girls resumed using it as as a meeting place for social gatherings and clubs. When the school became co-ed use of the Cabin declined and it was eventually torn down in 1968 to make way for other buildings. However, it was revived again in the 1990s not as a physical place but as an event for alumni of GSWC and SGSNC to gather and remember their time at college. The collection contains pictures of the original House in the Woods from the 1920s to the 50s. It also contains pictures, videos, and items from the event House in the Woods which was held from 1995-2006.
