Scope and Contents
The men’s Basketball Team, first the Rebels and then the Blazers after 1972, was formed and played its first season in 1959 with coach Gary Colson (see Baseball 16/2/2). In 1968, coach Jimmy Melvin took over and in 1971 James Dominey, current Blazer’s coach, got the job. The Men’s Basketball Collection contains, schedules, promotional materials, annual programs, clippings and correspondence. The summer basketball camp is also documented.

The cover photo was taken adjacent the beautiful Valdosta State Library and features head coach James Dominey and pre- season all-American Ivey Hubbard, who is also the captain of the 1982-83 Blazers. Hubbard is a senior who has scored almost 1300 points in his career. Dominey is beginning his 12th season as head coach, having won 191 games in the previous 11 years. This photo and the photo on the back cover were taken by college photographer Ken Klanicki.
