Scope and Contents

Marie Crockett Youmans ran a dance studio for many years in Valdosta.  In the early years of South Georgia State Normal College she was on the faculty as Marie Holt Greene.  This collection documents the history of her dance studio. There are many photographs of dancers and dance recitals. There are letters to Mrs. Marie along with extra information (such as roll books for classes, sheet music to recitals, figurine collection information, and notes of dances presented at an annual convention) included within in the folders. An article from the Valdosta Daily Times was included also.  A painting of Marie Holt Greene, as well a porcelain ballet figurines, and collages of photographs and documents from this collection in room 4260 of Odum Library.

Biography

Marie Crockett Youmans, a renowned dance instructor, came to Valdosta State College by way of Columbia University Teachers’ College. Mrs. Crockett Youmans opened a dance studio for the natives of Valdosta, Georgia.
