Jane Elza was a member of the Political Science Department who was involved in the founding of the Women's and Gender Studies department at Valdosta State. Dr. Jere (pronounced "Jerry") Madison Pound was the second president of Georgia State Womans College. He was appointed in July 1933 by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, and served only until May 1934, due to illness. Dr. Pound was born in Liberty Hill, Georgia, in 1864. Dr. John Belcher was an associate professor of sociology at the University of Georgia. Dr. Belcher contributed most of his time to gather information regarding the living conditions of various populations ranging from small villages in Puerto Rico to rural Georgia in the nineteenth century. John C. Huxford (1931-2008) was a professor with the College of Fine Arts at Valdosta State University. He donated vintage sheet music booklets dating from 1882-1964.
