George and Joyce Aigen Collection
Family photos and genealogical assets for the family of Joyce and George Aigen. Includes interviews with George Aigen. George Aigen served in World War II between 1944-1946. (Company B, 1269th Combat Engineer Battalion, 6th Army Group; 44th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Brigade) He participated in the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp, April 29, 1945. The personal narratives of George Aigen are part of the Veteran's History Project (AFCX/2001/001/95454) at the Library of Congress.

Item 1: Ruptured Duck Plaque, 1943
Black plaster plaque featuring a sculpture of the "Ruptured Duck" medal that was issued to each honorably discharged World War II veteran. On the side of the plaque is a small button on a ribbon. The button also features the "Ruptured Duck" motif. The button was presented to Lieutenant Colonel Pleasant Eugene Irby, USMC, of Ponca City, Oklahoma. It was donated by his family.

Louis Schmier Papers
Louis Schmier was a professor of history at Valdosta State University for 45 years. He retired in 2013 and donated a large collection of materials to the VSU Archives and Special Collections. This is comprised of novels about World War II, Journal articles about World War I, and sources about German history relating to World War II. In addition there are costumes he used when teaching and posters from the VSC "Week of Seminars" events in the 1970's.
