Scope and Contents The VSC Cross Country and Track Team was formed in 1976, although cross country runners had entered various events without the team previously.  George Whitmire, Gary Slayton, and Bill Thomas were early stars.  The first coach was Dave Waples.  That year the team won the State Championship, the South Atlantic Conference Championship, and placed eighth in the NCAA Nationals. Valdosta High School Scrapbook 22, 1977 Volume 2. From the Lowndes County Historical Society Collection at Valdosta State University Archives and Special Collections.

This is the second volume detailing events in 1977. This football season included a run for the state title against Warner Robbins the defending national champions and the State Champions. There is not much about basketball in this issue but it is lightly mentioned.
