Knight, William Washington, 1829-1863
Biographical Note
William Washington Knight was born on March 4, 1829, in Lowndes County, which is today part of Berrien County, Georgia. He married Mary E. Carroll in 1855, and they had a daughter, Lillian Melissa, born on March 22, 1862. Knight was the son of Levi Knight and Ann Clements/Herrin. He enlisted in the Confederate Army on October 1, 1861, and served in the 29th Georgia Infantry Company K as a sergeant. Knight was 6 feet in height, with dark hair and blue eyes. He died of disease on December 27, 1863, and was buried at Beaver Dam Cemetery, Ray City, Berrien County, Georgia.
