Dooly County Correspondence, 1946-1947

 File — Box: 2, Folder: 9
Collection number: Folder 9

Scope and Contents

This folder consists mostly of letters of support to Thompson followed by his thank-you responses. The folder also contains a Western Union Telegram from Herman Talmadge to Leon Beddingfield noting that the Attorney General’s recent opinion is a political one, that if Ellis Arnall is allowed to dictate his successor he will block every vote to restore the Democratic White Primary in Georgia, and that this state will be turned over to the “negroes, reds, and pinks” of the east. Talmadge wants Georgia to remain the “white man’s state” that it already is.
