The Georgia Historic Resources Survey of Lowndes County represents an initiative undertaken by the Valdosta Heritage Foundation, commencing in the year 2000. This collection encompasses surveys of historic structures located in Valdosta, Quitman, the rural areas of Brooks County, and the Turner County towns of Rebecca and Sycamore. The surveys of these historic properties were conducted from 1980 to 1981 by the South Georgia Area Planning and Development Commission. In 2022, the Lowndes County Historical Society provided these documents on loan to the Archives and Special Collections at Valdosta State University for the purpose of digitization.
