Physical Description Note

Leaf from a later edition of the Vulgate Bible. Printed movable type with non-contemporary illumination. Decorative wood cuts are non-contemporary hand colored. Printed by Jacques Sacon of Lyon for publisher Anton Koberger in Nuremberg. Woodcuts designed by Hans Springinklee. Sacon printed several editions of the Vulgate for Koberger's publishing house between 1512 and 1522. The editions included new illustrations from woodcuts by Springinklee, a pupil of the woodcut master Albrecht Dürer. Koberger was one of the most important publishing houses of the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. At the height of its activity, the firm employed over 100 people and ran 24 presses.
