Leaves from Geneva Bible, Mechanically printed, 2nd Edition, Red Letter edition. 1 leaf of Ezekiel. 1 leaf of Macabees.  Leaf: 8 1/2" x 5 3/8" The Geneva Bible was the first mass produced English translation that was available and distributed to the general public. The New Testament was translated directly from scholarly Greek editions. The Old Testament used previous English and Hebrew translations with some revision. The project was supervised by William Whittingham and other English Protestants who fled to Geneva when Queen Mary I of England (1553-58) attempted to return Great Britain to Catholicism. The Geneva Bible contained Protestant commentary and was popular with Calvinists and Puritans. The Geneva Bible was carried on the Mayflower to America.
