Item Description: Student newspaper of Valdosta State University. Published: Valdosta, Ga.: Valdosta State University [Student Government Association}, 1993- Some volumes include Orientation issues. Description based on: Volume 41, number 1 (Oct. 6, 1970) Physical Description: volume : illustrations ; 39-59 cm Publication Frequency: Weekly during the Fall and Spring semesters. This collection presents an interesting look at history, because it contains student-produced publications. Housing issues of the Spectator from 1973-2013 means that this collection provides access to 40 years worth of news as told by students. Abstract

The Campus Canopy was the student newspaper which began in 1934 at the Georgia State Womens College and continued at Valdosta State College in 1950. In 1970, the paper was renamed The Spectator, as it is known today.

Processing Information

The Campus Canopy and the Spectator published before the year 2000  were digitized from print copies via our in-house DIY bookscanner. Canon Rebel T3/T5 Cameras. Images processed by student workers in Photoshop CS5. OCR by ABBYY FineReader 11.0.   Spectators published after the year 2000 are most likely born digital copies created by the Spectator staff. Spectators from 2000-2010 are pre-print QuarkXpress Files converted to PDF/A. Issues from 2012 to present are downloaded weekly from www.vsuspectator.com. Box 14 1960-1968 was bound and placed in Special Collections Sunner 2023
