James Beck Collection
Scope and Contents
James Beck was a three term Valdosta mayor in the 1960's and 1970's and later served in the Georgia House of Representatives, first being elected in 1975. He later served at least until 1990 as representative. The 15 boxes of materials in the James Beck Collection contain correspondence, reports, newspaper clippings that document his government service. Topics include railroads, the Valdosta Municipal Airport, Moody Air Force Base, re-elections, the Planning Commission, Education, President Carter, and Georgia Legislation.

James Beck was born May 5, 1917 in Eton, Georgia.
Beck was a three term Valdosta mayor in the 1960's and 1970's and later served in the Georgia House of Representatives, first being elected in 1975. He served 16 years as a State Representative.
He died May 7, 2011.
