Victoria Pennington Rare Map Collection
Scope and Contents
Victoria Pennington (1943-2015), Valdosta State University Associate Professor Emeritus, was a member of the Theatre faculty. Victoria Pennington collected these 16 framed maps that highlight places she traveled.. The collection includes important early maps of St. Augustine, FL and the Georgia/Carolina coast created by French mapmaker Jaques Bellin (1703-1772) and Samuel Lewis. There are maps of the Southeastern U.S. ,Georgia and the Gulf of Mexico by American S. Augustus Mitchell (1792-1868) and maps of Italy by Thomas Jeffreys and Girolamo, Ruscelli (ca1500-1561). Maps frpm 1540-1912 are represented.

Biographical or Historical Information
Victoria Pennington (1943-2015), Valdosta State University Associate Professor Emeritus, was a member of the Theatre faculty. In addition, she served as Production Supervisor of the Jekyll Island Musical Theatre Festival (now Peach State Summer Theatre) from 1990 through 1999.
She served as President of the Southeastern Theatre Conference in 2000 and received SETC's Distinguished Service to Theater Award in 2005. She was also Executive Director of the Georgia Theatre Conference from 2004 to 2007 and was the recipient of GTC's Leighton Ballew Award for Distinguished Service to Theatre in Georgia in 2008.
