8/2- Veteran local teacher offers prescription for education woes- Martha H. Shad; Rubye Pompey, a woman that served as a teacher for 31 1/2 years, suggess that children seem to have less respect for authority. Pompey suggests that teaching children to follow rules and respect adults prepares them for the school enviornment. She also notes that parents seem to have less interest in their children's progress at school.
8/7- Whether they like it or not, race does matter- Bill Maxwell; Author discusses the nation's race problem and the hypocrisy and denial of race issues by government officials.
August 1997- Evans: dedicated to helping people- Shelby G. Spires; Article discusses Lowndes County Commissioner Joyce Evans, her involvement with Head Start, and her efforts for welfare and transportation reform.
