Lena Hawks Instructional Reports

Lena Hawks was Dean of Instruction for Georgia State Woman's College in the late 1930s-1940s. This is a collection of statistical data compiled by her in that time period concerning the students of GSWC. Library Building

Contains the history of Valdosta State's Library including pictures and papers about Powell Hall which served as library for the school until Odum Library was built. It contains papers from the library built in the 70's including floor plans and correspondence concerning the interior alterations and problems. Project manuals, correspondence and plans for the Odum Library Addition are also included as well.

Library Dedications

Contains Dedication pamphlets from the Libraries of Valdosta State. In 1941 Powell Library was dedicated. Powell was in use until 1972 when a new library was completed that would eventually be named Odum Library. In 2004 Odum dedicated a new addition that doubled the size of the library.

Lieutenant Andrew McConnell Civil War Diary

Scope and Contents The diary was written in pocket-sized editions and each was sent home after it was completed.  The collection in the Valdosta State Archives has two folders, each containing an identical copy of the McConnell diary.  The diary is divided into five volumes, the last of which was written by John Albert Feaster Coleman after McConnell died.  Kathleen and Mary Bess Coleman and Julia and Mary Faucette owned four of the original volumes of the diary.  Donald Clayton owned one book, which he found...
