Campus Activities Board

Scope and Contents The Campus Activities Board is an arm of the Student Life Office with the expressed purpose of providing entertainment, recreation, and educational programs for the University student body. This collection contains C.A.B. Campus Highlights from 1977-1999, a quarterly newsletter announcing upcoming events. Also included are C.A.B. 1992 meeting minutes and attendance, as well as 1987-1997 event flyers and contract agreements for performances.

Campus Canopy/Spectator

Abstract The Campus Canopy was the student newspaper which began in 1934 at the Georgia State Womens College and continued at Valdosta State College in 1950. In 1970, the paper was renamed The Spectator, as it is known today.

Campus Capsule

Scope and Contents Campus Capsule was issued by the Valdosta State College Campus Relations Office as a weekly news-sheet. It contained brief news-items about things happening at the college. These could involve individual employee announcements such as a new employee being hired or a professor attending a conference. They also involved campus-wide events, and inter-departmental news such as committee meetings. This collection contains newsletters from 1966-1989.

Campus Communications Board

Scope and Contents The Communications Board serves as a liaison between the campus media and the administration, the faculty, staff, and students of Valdosta State University. The "Comm Board" also serves as the highest-level policy and review board for the general operation of campus communications at VSU. Carol Mikkelsen Papers

Scope and Contents Dr. Carol Mikkelsen, Adjunct Professor of Voice at VSU donated  VSU Opera production posters. The posters are from the 1970's through the present. She also donated materials she used in producing her dissertation, which was concerned with Spanish Music Theatre with a focus on Zarzuela.

Scope and Contents This collection of papers was donated to the Valdosta State University Archives and Special Collections by Professor of History Dr. Catherine Oglesby. They mostly date from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. Containing newspapers, magazines, legal papers, and newsletters most of these materials were produced in the Civil Rights Era which gives a special insight into that topic. Charlie H. Skinner Primitive Baptist Foot Washing Bowl

Scope and Contents This metal bowl was used for foot washing in the New Ramah Primivite Baptist Church in Berrien County. It was donated by Charlie Skinner, who was a member in his youth. The bowl is white with a red rim.

Civil Defense Kits

Scope and Contents During the Cold War fear of war prompted the US government to encourage its citizens to build fallout shelters to help protect them from the effects of possible nuclear attacks. These materials which originated from the Office of Civil Defense, were intended to be used in the event of an emergency that required evacuation to the fallout shelters.
