Item 1: Ruptured Duck Plaque, 1943
Scope and Contents
Black plaster plaque featuring a sculpture of the "Ruptured Duck" medal that was issued to each honorably discharged World War II veteran. On the side of the plaque is a small button on a ribbon. The button also features the "Ruptured Duck" motif. The button was presented to Lieutenant Colonel Pleasant Eugene Irby, USMC, of Ponca City, Oklahoma. It was donated by his family.

Biographical / Historical
The medal, known as the "Ruptered Duck" was a revision of an earlier design by Anthony DeFrancisi. In 1943 Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt ask Rosario "Russ" Fiore to modify DeFancisi's medal for use by World War II veterans. The "Ruptured Duck" was then produced in high quantity and issued to each honorably discharged WWII veteran.

Physical Description
Plaque is 11.5"W x 10"H, painted black. The figure is bronze, 3.5" circumference, depicting an eagle with spread wings. the small button is also bronze, measuring .5" in circumference.
