Scope and Contents

Augusta Rentz Gulliver was an alumni of Georgia State Womans College and went on to become its Registrar in 1931. This is where she met Harold Gulliver a professor of English at the school. They were married in the rotunda of West Hall in the early 1930s. This collection is made up of items found in an old steamer trunk belonging to them. It is full of correspondence, along with photographs and newspaper clippings. It spans from the 1880s to the 1980s and it paints a picture of what life was like for an academic couple during that time period. Harold Gulliver was a World War I veteran, taught in Constantinople and Damascus and was a Fulbright Scholar. Also in the trunk are letters from Harold Gulliver's father Henry as he planned for his "Grand Tour" of Europe, and correspondece from Harold Gulliver Jr. who would become editor of the Atlanta Constitution.
