Scope and Contents Michael M. Black, a native of Valdosta, Georgia, attended Valdosta State University where he earned a BBA in Finance, a Master's Degree in Higher Education Leadership, and a second Master's Degree in Instructional Technology. The items in his collection deal with the history of Valdosta State College. Specifically items concerning: Frank R. Reade, J. Ralph Thaxton, & Eleanor Roosevelt's 1941 speech to GSWC. He also donated copies of obituaries of Valdosta State Faculty and Staff 1935-2002.

Abstract This collection contains material from the 1950-1993 time period in Valdosta State University history.  During this time Valdosta State University was known as Valdosta State College. Renamed VSC from Georgia State Womens College in 1950, the school embarked on a new era as a co-ed campus.
