Scope and Contents Augusta Rentz Gulliver was an alumni of Georgia State Womans College and went on to become its Registrar in 1931. This is where she met Harold Gulliver a professor of English at the school. They were married in the rotunda of West Hall in the early 1930s. Harry Stillwell Edwards Collection

His formal education was cut short by the Civil War, but he read extensively in the Library of Congress while working as a clerk in the U. S. Hidden History Tours

Scope and Contents The VSU Archvies department first implemented Hidden History Tours in 2007 as a way to connect students and VSU supporters to people and places in the university’s past through offering secret or limited access to parts of the campus not frequently allowed. Guides would take small tour groups throughout campus which was decorated with life-size pictures from the past. Holtzendorff Map Collection

Scope and Contents Dr. L.C. Holtzendorff, a Valdosta dentist, donated a collection of maps with a focus on the Southern United States to Valdosta State College. The College intended to use them in the study of Georgia Colonial History. Holtzendorff began collecting maps during World War II. He specifically searched for maps depicting the Okefenokee Swamp, but had trouble finding them. Instead his search led him to collecting maps showing the development of Georgia, that range from the 1700s to the 1970s.

House in the Woods

Scope and Contents House in the Woods has taken several names and forms through the last century. Sometimes called the Log Cabin or Little House in the Pines, it was originally a tenement house near Georgia State Woman's College. The school acquired it and the students would meet there to take a break from school life. Eventually the original building burned down but the House was rebuilt by the WPA in 1939 and the girls resumed using it as as a meeting place for social gatherings and clubs. When the school...

Huey Theus Collection

Scope and Contents Huey Theus (1938-2013), an artist, was elected to the office of State President of the Georgia Jaycees and retired as marketing director of the Georgia Department of Labor with 35 years service. The collection contains prints of Theus's drawings. Most of these are black and white picture of architecture around Georgia. Many of them are county courthouses.
