Abstract

The Katherine C. Swidinski Scrapbook Collection predominately features photographs from South Georgia State Normal College in Valdosta, Georgia, circa 1919-1920. The photographs were collected in two black scrapbooks created by Daisy Mae Culpepper, a 7th-grade student at the South Georgia State Normal College training school during the 1919-1920 school year. Kessler Collection

Scope and Contents Charles and Jeannette Kessler donated 140 items, from antique Ban Chiang pottery, antique textiles to Tibetian photographs. Jeannette Kessler was an avid collector of antique textiles.  Some pieces she bought to show and some she had made into clothes.  In all over 60 textiles from South East Asia are part of this collection. King's Bay

Lamar Dodd Collection

Langdale Collection

Scope and Contents Harley Langdale(1914-2013) graduated from Valdosta High School.He then attended the Citadel before transferring to the University of Georgia to study Forestry. He was the first person from Lowndes County to receive a BSF Degree in Forestry from UGA. Mr. Langdale became the third Registered Forester in the state of Georgia. Contains the history of Valdosta State's Library including pictures and papers about Powell Hall which served as library for the school until Odum Library was built. It contains papers from the library built in the 70's including floor plans and correspondence concerning the interior alterations and problems. Project manuals, correspondence and plans for the Odum Library Addition are also included as well.

Library Dedications

Contains Dedication pamphlets from the Libraries of Valdosta State. In 1941 Powell Library was dedicated. Powell was in use until 1972 when a new library was completed that would eventually be named Odum Library. In 2004 Odum dedicated a new addition that doubled the size of the library.
