Holtzendorff Map Collection

Scope and Contents

Dr. L.C. Holtzendorff, a Valdosta dentist, donated a collection of maps with a focus on the Southern United States to Valdosta State College. The College intended to use them in the study of Georgia Colonial History. Holtzendorff began collecting maps during World War II. He specifically searched for maps depicting the Okefenokee Swamp, but had trouble finding them. Instead his search led him to collecting maps showing the development of Georgia, that range from the 1700s to the 1970s.

Huey Theus Collection

Huey Theus (1938-2013), an artist, was elected to the office of State President of the Georgia Jaycees and retired as marketing director of the Georgia Department of Labor with 35 years service. The collection contains prints of Theus's drawings. Most of these are black and white picture of architecture around Georgia. Many of them are county courthouses.

J. Randall Walker Papers

Scope and Contents John Randall Walker(February 23, 1874 – July 21, 1942) was a U.S. political figure from the state of Georgia. In 1912, Walker was elected to the 63rd United States Congress as a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives and served two additional terms in that seat until losing his bid for reelection in 1918. James Beck Collection

Scope and Contents James Beck was a three term Valdosta mayor in the 1960's and 1970's and later served in the Georgia House of Representatives, first being elected in 1975. He later served at least until 1990 as representative. Scope and Contents Three scrapbooks of early SGSNC students including photographs, newspaper clippings, invitations, cut-out decorations, and dried flowers.  Names found in the scrapbooks include Natalie Sirmans, Jean Loggins, Emma Sue Morris and students with the last names Williams and King.  The scrapbooks date from circa 1917.  The pictures include the "coming to college" girl and other very early photographs. John Adam Treutlen

Land grant to John Adam Treutlen for 400 acres near Savannah from King George III. Includes direction of what the Governor was supposed to do to the land and what rights he and his heirs have to the land. Information on back of the deed dates it at June 1767.

Scope and Contents The Joyce Papers consist mainly of correspondence with colleagues and students.  It also includes  a few photographs, articles and copies of all of her books. Although some items date to Joyce's childhood in Valdosta, the bulk of the papers are from the early 1980's to 2001. The Katherine C. Swidinski Scrapbook Collection predominately features photographs from South Georgia State Normal College in Valdosta, Georgia, circa 1919-1920. Lamar Dodd Collection

Lieutenant Andrew McConnell Civil War Diary
